Reducing ground and airborne drift losses in young apple orchards with PWM-controlled spray systems

چکیده
Pulse Width Modulated (PWM) solenoid valves can be used to control nozzle flow rates for precision spray applications reduce pesticide use, thereby reducing environmental risk and production cost. Field tests in a two-year-old young apple orchard were conducted investigate losses the ground air an air-blast sprayer equipped with three systems: 1) manually controlled constant-rate system enabled PWM (Manual-PWM), 2) laser-guided variable-rate (Laser-PWM); 3) conventional disabled (Disabled-PWM). Artificial targets (plastic plates water sensitive papers) placed under twelve trees randomly selected from four rows of collect ground. Airborne determined by using nylon screens, mounted at five heights on each seven poles distributed different distances first sprayed row. Laser-PWM Manual-PWM produced significantly lower airborne drift inside outside than Disabled-PWM, these decreased as distance away row increased. reduced total 90.3% loss 85.0% compared Disabled-PWM whereas same 84.1% 7.9%, respectively. detectable that reached 88.4 m where was operated. Thus, either automatic or manual would have great potentials improve application efficiency significant reductions both consumption orchards, off-target environment.

Reducing Spray Drift
Spray drift is the movement of a pesticide through the air, during or after application, to a site other than the intended target. Drift is considered to be the most challenging problem facing applicators and pesticide manufacturers. Although drift may occur as vaporized active pesticide from the application site, it is usually the physical movement of very small drops from the target area at t...
متن کاملGround Deposition and Airborne Spray Drift Assessment in Vineyard and Orchard: The Influence of Environmental Variables and Sprayer Settings
Spray drift assessment encompasses classification of the capacity of each sprayer/ technology/setting combination to reduce or avoid the spray drift risk, as well as drift measurement to define buffer zones mandated during pesticide application. Compounding the challenge of these tasks is the great variability of field evaluation results from environmental conditions, spray application technolo...
متن کاملRobotic Surveying of Apple Orchards
We present a novel system for surveying apple orchards by counting apples and estimating apple diameters. Existing surveying systems resort to active sensors, or high-resolution close-up images under controlled lighting conditions. The main novelty of our system is the use of a traditional low resolution stereo-system mounted on a small aerial vehicle. Vision processing in this set up is challe...
متن کاملElectric-Field Losses in Ground Systems
The efficiency of ground-based antennas is highly determined by the power dissipated in the ground plane, which can be separated into H-field and E-field losses. In this paper, a new approach is presented for the separation of ground losses that is based on Joule's law. It is theoretically valid at any frequency. Nevertheless, some simplifications can be applied in the lowand medium-frequency b...
متن کاملAirborne Wind Energy Systems with Rotary Wing and Ground Generator
Airborne wind energy systems with a rotary wing and a ground generator are analyzed. These systems are very attractive from practical point of view, because of absence of tether drag, simplicity of control, launch and landing of the wing, combined with the well known benefits of AWES, including ability to reach high altitude winds and to adjust altitude dynamically to catch the strongest wind. ...
